Make no friendship with an angry man, and with a furious man do not go, lest you learn his ways and set a snare for your soul. Prov. 22:25-26 (NKJV)
The people around us have a way of rubbing off on us. It’s been said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. That can be the people we live with, friends, people at the coffee shop, workmates, or just those angry talking heads we listen to on TV, radio, or podcasts.
The Scripture warns us here to be selective of the people we spend our time with, and avoid people of a bad nature, so that we don’t become like them and suffer for it. While anger is directly called out here, this can apply to any particular character flaw – why hang around with rude people?
The converse of this is also true: When the people we spend our time with are of a good nature or character, we will tend to become like them, too.
Make friends with the kind of people you’d like to be remembered as when you’re gone. Choose your friends carefully, because you will become like them.
